DON IMUS: DEJA VU!

Is Don Imus a racist? It is just not believable. Don Imus, the one in the middle of the big controversy over Rutgers female basketball players did it again. To the questions if he was racist, I did answer by giving him the benefit of the doubt as he apologized and recognized that he was so wrong. I did not really think he was a racist but now after this second blunder it would be difficult for me to give him another chance.

In fact, being a racist is not something that is intermittent, it is something that will dwell for a while in the persona of those who are. Sometimes, they act like they a not racist but it actually turns to a dormant habit that surges in unexpected circumstances.
The reason why I’m pointing it out is the fact Imus did not really need to ask about color. What color is it? This actually is the stupidest question that a media actor can ask ON-AIR. I really wonder if Imus himself know exactly anything about the sensitive topic of race in this country. Why ask about color as anybody can do bad things or good thing. This is not really related to race.

Imus really needed a lot of hours of diversity sessions after his first blunder. The other issue with media and mainly these talk-shows is that they are not professionals. It just happened that they can or think they can talk without really understanding what is at stake every time they say something. Imus is actually just the tip of the iceberg. Rush Limbaugh is also one of those talk show people who are strongly in need of diversity training.

I do think it is in the role of the media owners to make sure diversity in the airwaves is a reality. They need to set tangible guidelines and rules to help things like this not to happen. Anyways, they have to as their audience is dramatically dwindling.

During his program tomorrow, he is going to discuss his rationale for his statements. I believe that many people were apt to give Mr. Imus a swipe for the firs discretion, but after a second time, it appears that learning is not taking place. Have you wrote your letter yet? Hmmmm.

This is not Don Imus' first, second of even third altercation with the media about irresponsible remarks he has made.
I find it somewhat odd that the reason he stated for asking "what color is he?" was to "make the point that police discriminate against African-Americans." His ambiguously sarcastic statement about race further portrays him as an ignorant, multimillion dollar white male who is only thirsty for media attention. If he wanted to make amends about racial profiling of professional sports players, then why not take the matter seriously? A response such as “Well, there you go. Now we know,” fails to warrant good judgment and is the typical response that has drawn in conservatists for years. As good as his intentions were meant to be (I'm no so sure he has suddenly changed his ways), why didn't he just make this clear to his audience? He already knows he is walking a very thin line since his Rutgers remarks over a year ago.
Also, Don Imus should stay away from participating in discussion about professional and collegiate athletes. He seems to make the majority of his racist remarks when talking about a subject in which he cares nothing about. Leave sports radio to the professionals. Can’t he talk about things such as where to get the best alligator cowboys boots or ultra-conservative ideals? I just think he would stay out of trouble if he adhered to topics closer to his field of knowledge.
Personally, I think this 67-year old should retire. He has offended enough people and solidified his place as a modern racist. I am exhausted from hearing about his “racial remark of the week.” I think it’s about time he leaves or the corporation actually takes action.
